I love new beginnings! The New Year is a perfect opportunity to evaluate the past year and make goals for the upcoming one. Proverbs says that man makes his plans but the Lord directs his steps. Our plans should always be made with the faith and knowledge that God’s plan will ultimate prevail.
I’ve found in my life that if I aim for nothing I normally reach it.
I may not always obtain the goals that I set each year but I find that it’s so helpful to evaluate different areas of my life to see if my actions are lining up with God’s Word. God’s Word is the standard. God’s Word needs to be the standard that we evaluate our life by and thereby set our goals.
So, I’m prayerfully and thoughtfully evaluating what I’d like to see changed in my life this coming year. I’m pondering where I’d like to be in 10 years. I’ll be nearly 60 years old in 10 years. How can I live today and the coming days to fulfill the Titus 2 mandates of the older woman? I’m considering areas of my health, spiritual life, my home and my relationships. I’m nearing 50 years old and the reality that most of my life is behind me with fewer years ahead looms over my thoughts. I want my days and time left to be used for God’s glory. I don’t want to haphazardly live my last days with no thought of my future destination when I stand before the throne of my Creator.
I have quite a few areas already defined but hope to add a few more before the end of this year.
*~*~*
It’s easy with the daily hustle and bustle to forget where our true home is… where our final destination remains. I was reading in Revelations 5 this morning. What a way to start the morning!
“Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousands times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the Elders. In a loud voice they sang:
” Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”
Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing:
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”
Image….one hundred million and twenty-eight beings are circling God’s throne and singing their songs of praise for the Lamb and his salvation. One hundred million and twenty eight beings! What a glorious visual! Can you picture it? Then all creation joins in with the song!
This is where we are headed. Heaven is our home. How often I forget that and set up permanent camp here among the passing away of the things that will rust and decay. My citizenship is not of this world. Each day brings me closer to the reality that I will not be here for long. My body is aging quickly… my mind is weakened… my strength is fading. Each of the days left in my life need to count for eternity. Our days need to be redeemed for God’s glory. Each day needs to be lived according to His Word and purposefully!
I want to live biblically and on PURPOSE this year.

Georgene, your post was very thought provoking. I too want to live this year knowing that God ultimately is the one who directs my steps. Thanks for your words.
An observation I made is that we must be around the same age. I’m also nearing 50. I’m 49 and my next birthday on Nov. 14 I turn the big 5 0 .
A bit scary but I choose to enjoy each stage of life I’m in.
You asked if I know a Joyce Heatwole in Ripon Cal. Her husband Carrol is my first cousin. Carrol’s dad Daniel is a brother to my father Oren Heatwole. I can only remember meeting Joyce once. She came east to attend our Grandmothers sale this past year. I’m hoping to see them again in Feb. when our grandmother turns l00 and we will have a big party for her in the Shenandoah Valley. That’s where I was born and raised.
I’ve noticed that you have commented on my sisters Xanga site. Julia is one of 7 sisters in my family. Her site is pauljuliagraber.
How do you know Joyce?
Have a blessed day,
Polly
Heaven is our home… I want to live biblically and on PURPOSE this year.
Great post… Our Father is doing a wonderful work in His people. I look forward to a year of the Body of Christ being built up, the pretenders being exposed, a year of hardships where the Body of Christ can shine as people without God finally see their need for God as the world is shaken up.
Hello, … and I keep wondering who you are. …. So, I read some of your postings and your website. ………. still, no clue. … And then my sister Polly wrote me about you. ….. Do we know you? …. How is it that you came to my site? ……… I do appreciate your thoughts and devotion to Jesus Christ. He is ultimate in my life also!!!! –Julia
Beautiful scripture! This is not our home, and what awaits us will be awesome!
Wonderful post. I read Rev. 20 & 21 this morning. I was struck with the idea that when He sees my face I don’t want Him to see shame on it, I want Him to see gratitude. I’ve asked Him to help me to keep short accounts with Him and to see the areas that I need to change and to stay in that place of grace by confession and repentance, knowing that He forgives me and lifts me up. I can never hope to be perfect, but I can claim the blood that covers all my sins and shortcomings. I pray that, with His help, I will overcome the flesh and that the Lord will be glorified in and thru my life.
Wonderful thoughts! I want to glorify Him more this year. I want to become more of Him and less of me. Of course as we are willing, He brings this work in us to full completion. We can trust in that. We don’t have to do all the changing, we just need to stay surrendered to Him and His will- and He will make the changes. Isn’t He good?! Have a wonderful New Year! Many blessings to you!
