A Big Surprise for Christmas!
We had an unexpected Christmas present this year! Our new dog, BB, gave birth to a litter of puppies.
She was a stray that a neighbor had taken in to try and find a home for. She was headed for the pound so we adopted her. She was so thin when we first brought her. I had her scheduled to be ‘fixed’ but when I took her in for surgery they said she was expecting puppies within a few weeks. We thought she was just ‘filling’ out from eating so much! Ha! So… we brought her back home to wait. Christmas morning, as we started to get ready for church, I let her outside and she wouldn’t come back in. I went looking for her and she was in her ‘igloo’ hiding. I had a feeling that the time was close. I hated leaving her home while we went to church but my family was planning on meeting us and my husband was scheduled to sing so off we went. By the time we got home she had given birth to 4 puppies. I changed her blankets and got her settled down and then went to the kitchen to pull together our Christmas meal. We had a houseful of people so I wasn’t able to check on her for the next 30 minutes. My husband went back in about a half an hour and came back saying that she had given birth to one more and another one was on the way. By the time she was done she had given birth to EIGHT puppies! Oh, my! What in the world am I going to do with EIGHT puppies!? All I can say is that God knew even if I didn’t. So, I’m praying very hard that the Lord will find GOOD homes for these precious little critters and that He will give me grace NOT to get too attached. My grandson is already trying to talk his Mama into taking one (they have 2 dogs already).
He keeps saying, “Gwammy, would you put the puppies in a box and bring them to my house?”
My husband will probably want to keep one. They are so adorable!
It so amazes me how the Lord places in these animals the instinct to know just how to care for their babies while giving birth and after. How can man say there is no God when they look at creation! Yet, Scripture is clear that without God’s grace none of us would ever come to God! He is truly amazing!

RYC-That’s a good idea. I have been eating some low carb ice cream this week. If I have it I eat it and then I start to want that sweet taste. My dd made baked apples for us and she put in a little splenda and some lemon and we served it with the ice cream I bought. Actually we were both so full we didn’t have it until the next day when she came over. The only thing that tempted me was the fudge. I think I would like to make something chocolate. I should try that candy with the PB in it. I’ll be on the lookout for some recipes.
Christmas puppies!
“without God’s grace none of us would ever come to God” – so true… and also, without Our Father’s GRACE – His equipping – we could never live this Christian life… HE births us, HE feeds and nurtures us… when we are full grown, HE gives birth through us.
What wonderful lessons our Father teaches us through Life, through all of His creation!
What a beautiful dog!! and puppies!!. Yes, God and His grace is truly amazing!!
ch’yeah right! your husband will prolly want to keep one? how many will YOU want to keep?! c’mon now….if it were me, they’d all be mine!!!

wowee! How wonderful
I enjoy your posts. You asked for the pole bean recipe. Mark is usually the one who makes them. He grew up with soupy beans and I grew up with thickened beans. Guess who won out? I’ve learned to love them his way. We cook them in water with salt , accent, and butter. Then after they come off the burner we put in creamora. That’s his mom’s secret. Yum!
The cho. pepp. roll turned out a flop. It tasted good but wasn’t real pretty to look at. Just a choc. jelly roll cake spread with l0X/cream cheese, cool whip and crushed peppermints. i then spead the roll with choc. icing and sprinkled more crushed peppermints on top. my Choc. icing was to thin and my cake was dryed out. Everyone ate it and seemed to like it. I’d rather be sewing! Smile!
Awww..what a wonderful surprise!
ah yes! puppy breath! it’s about as sweet as the scent of a newborn human baby to me….. there’s just something so wonderful about being a ‘mom’ to humans or puppies! no matter how old i get, the feeling is always the same when a wee one is placed in my arms…..i feel renewed. im so glad that god made the world so well for us to enjoy so!
Yes the pole beans are not a reg. lima. The vines grow real long and you have to stake them with poles, thus the name pole limas. We just dump in some reg. coffee creamora to make it creamy. One of those things that we really don’t measure. Some areas in the states are not suitable for pole limas because they need a long growing season.
