  • The answer was ‘NO’ on the disability claim

My husband and I have placed our request before the Lord for nearly a year. We knew what we hoped would happen. We prayed for the outcome we hoped to receive. But, Saturday we received news that the answer for now is a resounding “NO”. My husband was denied Social Security benefits for the second time in a year.  Our lawyer will appeal the decision. It will take nine months to receive a date to go before an administrative judge, then another 2 months for the appointment and a possible 2 more months to hear a decision. His state disability paycheck will end October 29.. less than a month away..  and we will then start living off of our savings which we pray will get us through until he goes before the judge in a year. (Thanks be to God He has provided a savings through the sale of our home and business equipment!)

I had so hoped we would not have to take this path. I prayed fervently asking the Lord if we could bypass this trial of no fixed income for the next year and the uncertainty if he will even be accepted by S.S.. Yet, tagged onto the end of each prayer has been the defining phrase.. ‘not my will but thine be done’! We’ve prayed.. we had our hopes concerning how we desired this next year to play out.. but ultimately.. bottom line.. we want God glorified.. we want His will to be done in our lives.. no matter what the cost!

I laid down for a Sunday nap today (old women like Sunday naps! winky) and picked up one of the books laying on my nightstand called, A Theology of Christian Counseling by Jay Adams. I was so delighted I did for the timing was perfect. Look what my eyes feasted on…

“God does what He wants to do.  He does it when and how and where it pleases Him to do so.  Our prayers do not instruct Him, they do not order Him, they do not manipulate Him.  We are ordered to ask, but we are told that we will receive.  All is of grace, and what we receive will be the answer that He is pleased to give.  It may be yes, partially yes, no, wait or something else.  It is our responsibilty to conform to His answer not God’s responsibility to conform to the desire behind our request.  What we think is right is not always what is best.”

.. “it is our responsibility to CONFORM to HIS ANSWER”!

I love knowing God is in absolute control of every intimate detail of my life. It’s the secure feeling of a child under the strong protection of a wise parent who they cannot manipulate by their whining or crying.

Will you please pray for my husband and I in the coming months that God will be magnified in our lives? I want God to be more accurately known by the way we respond to this trial.  I want others to look at our situation this next year and say.. ”WOW! Look how awesome their God is! Look how wonderfully He takes care of them!” We are weak and in ourselves I know we will fail. How thankful I am that He promises His strength and power to the weak!

I pray that we will kiss His feet with our lives!

  • This post is beautiful, Georgene.  I love you.

  • I know the feeling of this let down, and I am sorry for you both on that note, but as you I am praising God that He DOES know what He has planned for you and that you both trust Him for His will to be done. Jeremiah 29:11.

    Love you my friend!

    Because of Christ,

    Kel

  • Oh bless your heart for trusting! I will be praying for you both!  Gods Love! Sharon

  • “It is our responsibility to conform to His answer”

Wow!  I love that quote!  Praying for you!

  • Yep, God does what He does and we’re better off accepting His way. His glory will come through as you and your Hubby trust Him! I will be praying for you!

  • My heart breaks to hear this, but I think that is good.
    :”)  I pray for you.

  • Trusting is what He most desires from us, just not a real easy daily choice to make.  With our eyes on HIM, other things look pretty small.  That’s my prayer for you, for us all….all eyes stayed on HIM.  Do you know the hymn – Like a River Glorious?  Would be a great one to be humming!  Hugs.

  • I will be praying for you.  We have friends who are going through the same thing.  God is able.

  • I will continue to Pray ,I understand the situation all so well..To well…To go through what you have and stay positive and above it Is a testimony ,You are a Missionary  here at home ,you are witnessing the Love of Christ even when you are going through such hardship’s stay faithful God has a plan much bigger and Better than you ever  could imagine ..It is his Timing ..People are watching to see how you react to the stress you are in and your amazing Peace and Love shine through ……:)

  • ~~Praying for you as you wait for the appeal.  The Lord knows!

Psalms 91:4   He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

    Love You Georgene~~

  • I’m sure you’ve heard, and know all too well, that our disappointment is “His appointment”.  Such a stretch of faith – I marvel at it.  Yet, I have no doubt that He will sustain you and provide for you in marvelous fashion…..He is known for doing that.  Thank God for God.  None of us could do it without Him!  Underneath are the everlasting arms.

Thanks for your strong testimony. Just the imagining of it stretches my faith.  Love to you…. Q.’.

  • You are an inspiration and an encouragement to me.  We have had our house on the market for 6 months with no lookers.  God has taken care of a myriad of details relative to our moving nearer our children and grands but the big one (to us) ~ the house ~ is not moving.  We are trusting, too, but sometimes it is very hard to not be discouraged.   i will pray for you.  Will you pray for me?

  • @PrairieHomeSoapmaker - Yes, I will absolutely pray for you. When our business failed at the beginning of the recession we put our home on the market and it took 1 1/2 years to sell. We downsized into a smaller, less expensive home and then my husband’s health failed.  That home sold in in a few weeks (loan fell through) and then another buyer came immediately and it sold within two weeks. God had a plan each time. I believe He is more concerned that Christ be formed in us (through the trial) than allow us to the ease of a quick sale. Romans 8:28,29. I will pray that Christ be formed in you through this trial.

  • This was quite timely for me. I am sorry you have this trial, there are so many kinds of trials. I am happy your marriage is strong in your trial–it is a thing to be very thankful for. You two can face this together with the Lord’s help. I am blessed by your post as it confirms to me that God does indeed sustain us in trouble. I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me, as my daughter in law recently also reminded me–that is what  your post is saying in essence. :)

  • Prayers for the appeal.

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

  • I’m sorry to hear this. I didn’t realize he had already been turned down once. I’ll be praying. Linda
