Helpful to remind myself of this when my daughter was up for 3 hours last night in the middle of the night!
I believe some do one or the other, and some do both. I am glad God did not make us all the same.
Oh How I pray the hearts of women would understand/embrace this incredible concept. It could truly change the world!
I don’t think I agree with this. Not all woman are called to be mothers, so where does this leave them in God’s plan? Can he not use the unmarried? or the ones who are without child?
I believe at this time in my life that yes, I am called to raise my boy to love and serve God. But I did have a life for 32 years before I became a wife and 34 years before I became a Mother. I was a nurse/paramedic, I served God in my calling. I hope the lives I touched, the bodies I helped mend, the pain I relieved, the heart I held and pumped all counted for something. I think anyone can be used if they have a heart tender for God!!!
I don’t say this to cause problems or pick a fight or issue. I know that so many are doing this on others xanga pages and I wanted you to know that I am not one of those. I mean no will ill by disagreeing. I just read, and re-read the statement he made and just could not agree with it. I believe that being a wife is a calling in itself, and being a Mother is a calling, but its just not every woman’s calling.
@firefighterswife - I appreciate your humble response. The quote above was specifically referring to mothers, though. You are right in the sense that there are women in the world that are not able to bear children. Don’t you agree, though, that scripture is clear that a married woman’s primary sphere of responsibility (according to Titus 2, Proverbs 31, 1 Timothy 5) is the home? I’m not saying that scripture teaches a woman is never able to work outside the home. Just that if she does all that God commands her to do within her home, church and neighborhood that her days will be VERY full.
@georgene - Oh yes I so agree with you here. I think that a married woman’s first and biggest responsibility is to her husband, family and home. As I said this is a calling unto itself. I just know of so many that have a heart for God but they are not married or have no children. They often feel like less of a woman because they do not have these responsibilities.
Thank you for understanding my statements above meant no trouble. There seems to be a lot of trouble on peoples sites and I did not want you to think I was trying to cause any trouble…just trying to come to terms with his statement.
@firefighterswife - I love a quote from Augustine, “In Essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, love”. I do not see this issue as an essential where we must have unity.. salvation by faith? YES.. there must be unity! … the Trinity.. YES we must have unity… whether a woman works outside the home…. not one of the founding essentials to characterize a Christian therefore… liberty…. and in all things LOVE!
You have a gentle spirit!
What wonderfully encouraging words! Thank you for posting them.
Amen. Grace Church and Pastor MacArthur changed the way I viewed womanhood and I’ll forever be thankful for that.
When we read of the many faceted life of the virtuous woman depicted in Proverbs 31, we can see that there are many things for a Godly woman to do and to be. It is not “either/or” in her case; it is “both/and”,i.e., She could not only ride off to work on her camel and purchase land or sell goods; but, she could also minister to the needs of her household .One thing I wish I had that the Proverbs 31 woman had: SERVANTS!!! There is so much MORE I could do!!
How true! There is very little fulfillment to be found in the modern workplace.
