Wimpy theology makes wimpy women!
These quotes were taken from John Piper’s opening speech at the True Woman Conference in 2008. If it sparks your interest you can read more at Revive Our Hearts.
Lord, help us not to be wimpy women!
“Wimpy theology makes wimpy women”.
”A woman on her knees sways more in this nation than a thousand three-piece suited Wall Street jerks. “
“This is most remarkable that I would be given the privilege to address the most influential people in the world. “
“The opposite of a wimpy woman is not a brash, pushy, loud, controlling, sassy, uppity, arrogant Amazon”.
“The opposite of a wimpy woman is Joni Eareckson Tada, who would give her right arm to be with you. After forty-one years in the wheelchair she prays, “Oh thank You, thank You for this wheelchair. By tasting Hell in this life, I have been driven to think seriously about what faces me in the next. This paralysis is my greatest mercy.”2
“Wimpy theology does not give a woman a god big enough, strong enough, wise enough, good enough to handle the realities of life in a way that enables her to magnify Him and His Son all the time. He’s not big enough”.
“Wimpy theology is plagued by woman-centeredness, or as we usually call it, man-centeredness”.
“Wimpy theology doesn’t have a granite foundation of God’s sovereignty underneath. It doesn’t have the steel structure of a great God-centered purpose for all of human existence, including the worst of it”.

I attended the conference and it was not wimpy! Anything but! John Piper’s whole message was worth listening to, or buying. And his book, “What’s the Difference…”, also very good.
I was there too! Loved what Piper had to say- though I had read most of his books already so I kind of knew what he was going to say
But still it was encouraging all the same!
I am grateful God placed me into the body of a church where correct doctrine was taught. Once you have the doctrine “right” everything else falls into place. I am so grateful I was taught the Sovereignty of God doctrine and that in Precept I learned what propitiation and substitution meant. It is much easier to praise and worship God when you have a more accurate picture of Him. It is easier to trust Him when you know that He is Good and that everything He does is to bring Him glory and you good. I wish I could have been at the conference but I have read almost every book Piper has written. I know I would have been blessed, but at least you put up some of the highlights and I can think about these things. Love you
