  • Disappointment – His Appointment

    “Disappointment – His Appointment”‘

     change one letter, then I see

     that the thwarting of my purpose

    is God’s better choice for me.

    His appointment must be blessing

     though it may come in disguise;

    for the end, from the beginning,

    open to His vision lies.

     ”Disappointment – His Appointment.”

    Whose? The Lord who loves me best,

     understands and knows me fully,

    who my faith and love would test.

    For like loving earthly parents

     He rejoices when He knows

    that His child accepts unquestioned

    all that from His wisdom flows.

    “Disappointment - His appointment”;

    no good thing will He withhold.

    From denials oft we gather

     treasures of His love untold.

    Well He knows each broken purpose

    leads to a fuller, deeper trust,

     and the end of all His dealings

     proves our God is wise and just.

    “Disappointment – His Appointment”;

    Lord I take it then as such,

    like clay in the hands of the potter

     yielding wholly to His touch.

    My life’s plan is all His molding;

     not one single choice be mine.

    Let me answer unrepining,

    “Father, not my will but thine.”

     I found this beloved poem in a book I am reading on trials by Kay Arthur called,

     As Silver Refined: Learning to Embrace Life’s Disappointments

     by Kay Arthur.

     REJOICE always; PRAY without ceasing; in everything GIVE THANKS; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thess. 5:16-18.

  • I have never read a Kay Arthur book, but I hear so many people quote her and talk about how much her books impacted them. Is there on you would recommend?

  • This was such a timely post. I have forwarded to a hurting parent. Thank you!! I too will try to remember that this lump of clay is for His purpose, not mine.

  • I have done so many Kay Arthur Precept Bible Studies. When I studied Romans under her teaching I came to understand and embrace the doctrine of Sovereignty. I love her books. She is so real and understands the frailties of the human yet points us to the One Who can help us become all He intended us to be. I hope to get back into Precept in the near future. Thanks for sharing the poems.

  • @BooksForMe - I’m really loving the book I’m currently reading. I was fighting discouragement last night when I went to bed and within minutes the Lord used it to lift my countenance and help to get my eyes set back on His eternal purposes for trials.

    Even if you are not in the midst of a trial it would be a great resource for WHEN you are. You know the saying that you are either going into a trial or coming out of one (or something similiar to that).

    I also love her book called, How to study your bible, which teaches the inductive method of bible study. Excellent resource.

    I’ve also used her series called, The New Inductive Bible Studies Series, which uses her inductive method to study a particular book of the bible. Very helpful in learning how to ‘go deep’ in your bible studies.

    I can’t imagine you could go wrong in choosing any of her books.

    Does this help?

  • I just used that illustration this past week…..but I didn’t know there is a poem to go with it!  Thanks…again!  Q.’

    (I’m about an hour from Branson.)

  • Thank you for sharing this poem with me. I really need this reminder that no matter what God cares for me, he loves me , he has my best interest at heart, he knows what is best for me and he will bring me to no harm.
    My family and I are praying for you and for your family.
    God Bless,

  • Our ladies from church just attended the Women of Joy Conference last weekend and Kay Arthur was one of the speaker.  She was very very good.  This was my first opportunity to hear her in person.

    Thanks for sharing the poem!

  • wow. that is great! thanks for putting that up– ive gone through some major disappointments lately, so its good to have a reminder to trust the Lord and enjoy His plan for us. :]

  • That’s a very good poem. We’re going through the adoption process and have learned that the Lord is in control of each thing we do. There have been several children we’ve been interested in but so far none of them have turned out to be ours. Someone else has gotten them before we’ve been able to. In the end, we know that the Lord will bring us only those children HE wants us to have. We will continue to seek His face on the whole adoption thing and wait on Him! Thanks for posting it!

  • Hi thanks for the nice comment. I like Kay Arthur too! Great post. Blessings, Sharon
