Cozy, warm Saturday
I’m still using the free bible memory program online called BIBLE MEMORY. The verse I am practicing is:
Isaiah 55:8-9.. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
I absolutely love this program! I customized my own bible memory program to include the scriptures I want to learn. You can also just use the ones that the program already has assigned. Each day you receive an email with one scripture to practice. There will be a word missing and you try to fill it in. You continue practicing it until you can fill in all the blanks. It’s such an easy, effortless way to memorize scripture. After I practice my verse each day I click on over to the homepage and read Jonathan Edwards Resolution for the day, read the specific prayer request for the President (and say a prayer for him) and check on the weather in my area. This year I need to remember and review the previous scriptures I’ve memorized.
We live in California and the rains are really coming down hard the past few days! We’ve had 3 storms back to back. Today they let up for a short while so I ran to the corner market to buy a gallon of milk, picked up our mail at the little country post office and then headed back home. My husband and I brought about a 1/4 cord of firewood up to the house. That should give us enough to keep the house warm for a few days. Hubbins has a nice fire going in the family room.
I love to cook on stormy days. I had some potatoes that needed to be used up so I decided to make a pot of Potato and Corn Chowder. It was so good! My husband said that he wants it for dinner, too! I found the recipe at Recipezaar which is the best place I’ve found to hunt for recipes. Each recipe is rated by people who have actually tried them. I only try recipes with 5 stars.
Here she is:
Corn and Potato Chowder
1
medium onion, chopped
1
tablespoon minced fresh garlic
3
tablespoons butter (I divided this in half and used Grape Seed Oil for the rest)
2 (14 1/2
ounce) cans cream-style corn
4
cups whole kernel corn, canned is fine
2
medium diced potatoes, peeled (I used 4-5 potatoes)
1 (14
ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
1
cup canned sliced mushrooms, drained (I didn’t have these on hand but will use next time)
3
cups half-and-half or whole milk
1
small medium green bell pepper, seeded chopped
pepper
1
small red bell pepper, seeded and chopped (I didn’t have this on hand so I added some celery)
1/2
lb bacon, cooked and crumbled (or to taste) (I used Real Bacon bits sprinkled on the top instead)
grated parmesan cheese (optional)
- In a saucepan, saute onion and garlic in butter for about 3 minutes or until tender.
- Add cream-style corn, corn kernels, potatoes, soup and mushrooms.
- Stir in half and half.
- Add green and red peppers.
- Season with pepper.
- Simmer for 45 mins, or until veggies are tender.
- Garnish with cooked bacon then sprinkle with parmesan cheese if dersired.
I’m going to spend an hour working on a new housekeeping schedule for this coming year. I’ve been using FLYLADY for a long time. It works great but I’m ready to try something new. Grannyfox has a new schedule that looks interesting. I’m going to check out a few others while I’m at it. I already have a notebook for my housekeeping so I need to pull that out to see what changes need to be made.
Are any of you gals working on your housekeeping schedule for the year? I find I do better if I have a plan. How about you?
Hugs,
Georgene

Warm and cozy, indeed, you must be — that soup sounds delicious! …Hmmm, a housekeeping plan — wouldn’t my husband love for me to do this — I’ll check out those you’ve mentioned as my housekeeping is rather “as I” — as I see it, I do it.
I need to get back to a housekeeping schedule…..when left on my own, I’m in a mess.
You inspire me.
Love the red roses. I think I can smell them.

Hi Georgene,
I made a song from this verse in Spanish. It is one of our MV that goes with the book that we are studying at the Ladies Group. Singing it is the best way for me to memorize scriptures. Rebekah
We’ve been having a lot rain up here in the NW also. This is definetly soup weather. I’m look forward to seeing what you do with your housekeeping schedule.
I connected to your site through Becky’s site…her and I suscribe to one another.
Anyway….could you email me the link to that Bible memory program?
I clicked it on your “links” part , but nothing happened.
I love your site!
Oh, my! I’ll have to check that link again. Here it is for now:

I’ll check the above link in the blog later after church. Glad to have you visit.
After reading your post, I signed up for Bible Memory….
sounded like something very worthwhile to try, starting out in the new year. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for stopping by my site!
The recipe sounds so yummy AND I can get all the ingredients… can’t wait to try it!!
Have a wonderful day ;o)
This soup sounds wonderful…I will definitely try it. I must memorize more scripture this year, however, I agree with you to go back and review and cement the ones already learned that have gotten a bit rusty. Let us know how the new housekeeping schedule works for you. We will look for some great tips from you.
Love the roses!! Am enjoying reading your blog very much!
