… in former times,
the holy women who trusted in God also
ADORNED themselves,
being submissive (a military term meaning to ‘rank under’) to their own husbands,
as Sarah obeyed Abraham,
calling him lord,
whose daughters YOU ARE
if you do good
and
are not afraid with any terror.
1 Peter 3:5
This passage (in fact the entire chapter) has been one of my favorites over the years because there is so much GOOD STUFF to direct me in my relationship towards my husband and in pleasing God.
The word that jumped out at me this morning is the word ‘afraid’. Sometimes it can be a frightening thing to ‘rank under’ a husband’s decisions concerning the future. After all , they are human and prone to error and sin just as we are. Sarah is used for our example and we all know of the unwise decisions her husband made.
Look back for a moment at a very key phrase in this scripture.. the little phrase…TRUSTED IN GOD. There it is. There is the key to not being afraid .. trusting in God.
Trusting in God is where our focus needs to be. We submit to our husbands because God has commanded it. We trust His Word. We trust His commands as being what is best for us. We trust that He will use everything in our lives to conform us into the image of His Son. (Rom 8:28-29).
How can we fear when our hearts are set on trusting Him who loved us more than His own life?

God honors us when we obey Him by honoring our husband. Even with stupid mistakes, God will protect us.

Excellent. The Bible study I’m leading will meet in two weeks. We’re off next week. The passage for the next time is 1 Peter 3:1-7. It is a group of women who may never have heard of teachings like this. So please pray. Thank you for your comments on my post. I’m needing all the prayers I can get to support me as I learn deeper lessons on how to be a godly wife during this difficult time for my husband. Thank you. I’m going to come back and catch up on some of your sidebar articles.
Yes, I would be happy to share the recipe…sometime, not tonight though:) and also thanks for your message,I’ve been wanting to write back, was actually thinking about that today
