  • Changing Habits

I was reading an article this evening on saving money. There was a long list of questions that were designed to help change a bad habit. A light bulb went on when I read this! (Okay, my light bulbs are more like ‘flickers’ these days but nonetheless it was enlightening!) *S*

Ephesians 4:22-24 is a biblical pattern for changing ungodly habits. If you want to change a habit scripturally, you must PUT OFF (stop the ungodly habit), RENEW your mind, and PUT ON a new godly habit. I’ve been thinking about making some changes in areas of our finances but had not thought about applying the principles of Eph. 4 to make those changes. I’m excited the more I think about this!

So, I’ve decided to pray about which habits need to be changed.  Once I make my list I will pinpoint the habit that effects my budget the most. Then I’ll work at stopping that habit, renewing my mind in what Scripture has to say about it and putting on the new habit. I hope to use the questions below to help. Most of all I want to be specific in each area.

Here are a few of the questions to give you an idea. These questions are from the Simple Savings Newsletter.

    – What is one bad habit you would like to change?
    – What is the new habit you will replace it with?
    – What will you gain?
    – How will you remind yourself to change the habit?
    – How will you reward yourself for progress?
    – How will you make your old habit hard to do?
    – How will you make your new habit easy to do?

What do you gals think? Are there some habits concerning your finances that you’d like to change? Would it help if we shared just one habit we want to change this next year to save money? We wouldn’t have to do it until after the holidays. What think ye?

    Merry Christmas!

  • I like it. I want to stop impulse purchases. I’ve tried but I’m not always successful.

  • I’m not real sure, as the day approaches, just how much time I’ll have to be on Xanga, so I’m trying hard today to stop by everyone’s site today and wish you all a very Merry Christmas, filled with wonderful things and memories!  Have a joyful celebration of Jesus birthday! ~love, bette

  • Excelent post! One of the habits that changes our grocery budget the most was making a list based on the dinners I was going to fix that week and then actually sticking to the list – LOL

Have a wonderful Christmas day, and thanks for your encouraging comments :)

  • The corn recipe is so simple.

3 cans of white shoepeg corn (I usually use 1 can of this, since it costs more, and 2 of the regular yellow sweet corn), 8 oz cream cheese, 1 small can shopped green chili (in new mexico, we use chili in everything almost), and 1/2 cup butter.

Melt the butter ans soften the cream cheese.  Stir into the three cans of corn (drained) and the 1 can of green chili (also drained). I usually add a bit of garlic powder for more flavor.  Then just bake in the oven at 350 for 30 minutes.

This is a tradition around our household.  Hope you enjoy it!

My goal this next year is to be as financially wise as possible.  I want to be better about checking what I have in the freezer, and eating a lot less fast foods.  We get so busy that running through one drive-through line or another seems to  make sense, but oh how it costs – both in cash and the extra calories!

Sure enjoy  hearing from you, Georgene.  I pray our glorious Father will bless you and your family with joy, peace and an ever growing knowledge of His love for you.  Merry Christmas.

  • Well, you got me there!  I need to stop wasting food – especially those in the vegetable bin in my refrigerator!  Thanks for the needed reminders.  I would like to change this habit so I will be working on this in the new year.

    Have a wonderful Christmas!

    God bless you,

    Faye

  • Came by to say, “Merry Christmas”!  I hope you and yours have a very blessed Christmas! I won’t be back by until Monday, so, God Bless and be safe!

HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS & A BLESSED, SAFE, HEALTHY & HAPPY NEW YEAR.    HUGS

  • A VERY Merry Christmas to you and your’s!  I’m going to have to look into that web site just as soon as Christmas is over.  Looks like a good one!  God bless!

  • i’m just getting caught up on all my Xanga friends and read your post. What a wonderful idea! As i read through the comments, there were several suggestions of things to work on that caught my eye. Not wasting food, especially the fresh veggies; not buying on impulse but making menu lists, shopping from my own freezer first, and then sticking to the list when i go to the grocery store. Lots to think about as the new year approaches. Thanks for the challenge!
