  • Simplifying Christmas!

If I had to choose a subtitle for my life I think it would be EXAMINE. It has become a constant theme in my life. I have tried to make it a regular habit to evaluate much of what I do and compare it to Scripture. There are so many duties we are commanded to do by the Lord that I don’t want to spend my days in unproductive things that detract from His will.

So, again, I am EXAMINING my December goals. Of course, every jot and tittle will not be found specifically listed in Scripture but hopefully the principle will be there. If not, then I must decide if there is any value in it and let it go if not.

Most of all I want a quiet heart this month.. not only for my relationship with the Lord but also for my relationship with my family and others. If I am stressed and irritable then the rest of the months blessings will mean nothing to them.

So, I’m EXAMINING what duties are necessary and what can be dropped. This is so freeing and gives me time to really concentrate on the important things this month… Christ’s birth and loving my family and those in need.

    Blessings,
    Georgene

P.S. As I was putting up our Christmas tree I asked my husband, “What in the world does a tree have to do with the Savior’s birth?” He replied, “I haven’t the foggiest”.

  • Giggling over the P.S.!  :O)  I love your idea of evalutating and making things simple.  We do tend to get so caught up in the hub bub of it all don’t we?

  • Good word… great way to live life…

  • The quiet life sounds great! Just like the wise men,we need to seek him out,and worship….running to the malls hither and yon gets our focus off Him.Thanks !

  • Hey Girl  :O)

Thought i would let u know i changed my site name.

I have the same quesiton this year…….just like in your p.s.  Within my heart i am struggling.

  • good morning!  i think that there’s no better time of year to pause and reflect quietly on just exactly what christmas is all about.  i hate it that the media and certain entities out there in the world reserve this time of year to soapbox thier agendas for deposement of all things having to do with christ. it seems to be louder than ever.  yet, he came quietly to a busy world, and walked the way of death for us….  i ponder things in my heart and mind this time of year, and wonder what lies ahead for us all in the coming days.

i cherish the moments with my family…the ones i had, and the ones that will be forthcoming.  here, here to your efforts to re-establish the import of  necessities and letting go of the frivolous!

  • I just found your site through a friend’s list! Lovely post. A few years ago, when I was evaluating and finding scriptural support for Christmas celebration, I did a major overhaul on our Christmas traditions. We’ve taken all the fanfare and made it simply, less stressful, and more focused on celebrating Christ’s birth. It’s made a huge difference in our household. The rest of the family (unsaved) thinks we’re strange when I explain the reasons behind the new traditions, but I’m hoping our Lord will use it as an example some day.

We were watching a movie the other day, ‘Victoria and Albert’, and they made reference that it was Prince Albert who was the first person who brought a Christmas tree to England from Germany to celebrate Christmas. I’ll have to research the German tradition of having a tree for Christmas, and verify whether the movie statement is correct!

  • Hi Georgene.   My husband and I went for years without a Christmas tree, but started celebrating Christmas with a tree again for about the past 10 years.  I’ve read different things about the Christmas tree.  I think it is what is in our hearts that count.  My mom says she likes to think of the branches as pointing up to Heaven and that reminds her of Jesus.  Of course, putting a star on top reminds us of the Bethlehem star.  I feel we can make Christmas what we want it to be by what is in our hearts.  I’ve read a lot about the Christmas tree.  I just found this site this morning and thought I would share it… http://www.historychannel.com/exhibits/holidays/christmas/trees.html .  I haven’t read all of it yet, but it sounds like it might have a lot of good information.  I can’t remember everything else I’ve read over the years.  God’s blessings for you this Christmas season!  Love, Jeani

  • In referecne to your P.S.        read Jer.10:1-5     it’s something the heathen do.
